Special Fundraising Events

Victim Services - Red Deer Rural RCMP holds various fundraising events throughout the year. Volunteers are always needed to help participate in activities such as their golf tournament.

Board Members

Two Board Members are needed for Victim Services - Red Deer Rural RCMP. These members meet once per month and are actively involved. Each individual brings something to the Board, be it a business background, public relations or advertizing expertise, or community awareness. Training is available.

Crisis Workers

Victim Services - Red Deer Rural RCMP is looking for at least 5 volunteers to serve as Crisis Workers. These individuals work in pairs alongside individuals or groups that have been victimized through crime, death, or trauma, and provide encouragement and support. Extensive training is provided (82 hours initial training plus ongoing training) and there is a application process involved.

Crisis Workers

Victim Services - Red Deer City RCMP is looking for volunteers to serve as Crisis Workers. These individuals work in pairs alongside individuals or groups that have been victimized through crime, death, or trauma, and provide encouragement and support. Painting

The Lending Cupboard needs volunteers to paint two warehouses (the main warehouse and a second storage warehouse) as well as the cleaning area and the office.

Organizing Third World Donations

When The Lending Cupboard has an excess of equipment - typically crutches, walkers, etc or types of supplies that we ourselves cannot use (colostomy supplies, diabetic supplies, etc) - they donate them to Third World countries. They are in touch with several organizations and have added to containers which have gone to Romania, Cuba, Mexico, and South Africa. These items need to be organized, sorted, and transported. Groups going on missions trips could participate by bringing items with them.

Warehouse Cleaning

The warehouse that belongs to The Lending Cupboard needs cleaning. Four volunteers are needed once or twice a month in the evenings for 2-3 hours.

Operations Volunteers - Longer Term

Longer term volunteers are needed at The Lending Cupboard to help in general operations. This consists of working during our regular schedules working with our clients. It can be measuring someone for equipment, recommending equipment (after gaining some experience), processing donations (cash and equipment), completing loan agreement forms, repairing equipment, washing, and assembling equipment. The time commitment for this project would be 3 days per week.

Operations Volunteers - Short Term

Several short term volunteers are needed at The Lending Cupboard to help in general operations. This consists of working during our regular schedules working with our clients. It can be measuring someone for equipment, recommending equipment (after gaining some experience), processing donations (cash and equipment), completing loan agreement forms, repairing equipment, washing, and assembling equipment. This would be done either in the mornings or the afternoons.

Deep Cleaning

The Lending Cupboard requires 8 volunteers to come in once or twice a month in the evenings for 2-3 hours each to do a deep clean of shelving. This may involve moving shelves.

"HIV/AIDS/Hep C Prevention and Education Research Study"

Shining Mountains Living Community Society, in conjunction with Red Deer College, is conducting community-based research on prevention and education of HIV/AIDS/Hep C within Metis and First Nations groups. If you are Metis or a First Nations person, you can participate by sharing your knowledge, history, and background as part of this study.

"Caregivers Supporting Aging Seniors" Support Group

Are you a caregiver to an aging senior? Shining Mountains Living Community Society is starting up a new group for people like you! Come and meet other caregivers and encourage them in their work. Any cultural or religious background is welcome. Note: Criminal record check required.

"Ensuring Nutrition Program"

If you love to cook, Shining Mountains Living Community Society would love to include you in their "Ensuring Nutrition Program." Volunteers create thick soups or stews that contain protein and carbohydrates. Soups are frozen, then volunteers serve them on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Buns are also needed. There are approximately 25-30 people to feed each day. Note: Criminal record check required.

Fall Gardening

Shalom Counselling Centre is looking for individuals who love to garden. As fall approaches, their grounds need preparation for the change of seasons.

"Sense of Peacefulness"

Shalom Counselling Centre would like to add a water feature to their garden, which they will call "Sense of Peacefulness." They are in need of volunteers to excavate the area, set up required pumps and plumbing, and add rocks and shrubs. The water feature would include ponds, streams, and a waterfall.

"Friend Raiser"

On September 19 at CrossRoads Church, there will be a silent auction for Shalom Counselling Centre and a performance by singer/songwriter Cindy Morgan. Volunteers are needed to help with this event. Tasks include setting up, taking down, organizing the event, helping with the displays, assisting in the silent auction, taking items to bidders, and generally being a "runner."

Soundproofing Offices

Shalom Counselling Centre is looking for highly skilled individuals to soundproof their offices due to increased staff and clients. This project includes installation of door seals, drywalling, painting, and soundproofing of walls.

Special Events

The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, Red Deer Chapter holds various events throughout the year such as Christmas Dinner, Walk 'n' Run (August), and Valentine's Friendship Week. There is always a need for help in organizing these events as well as for participating. They are also open to new event ideas.

Social Gathering

Near the end of October, the Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, Red Deer Chapter is putting on a social gathering event. It will consist of a potluck, a dance, and movies and 40-60 people are expected in attendance. Volunteers are needed to help coordinate this event as well as to participate on the day of.

Resource Binder

The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta, Red Deer Chapter is looking to create a resource binder that contains information about agencies in Red Deer and the services they provide. This project would involve collecting brochures and business cards from agencies in Red Deer and compiling them in an organized format.

Recipe Book

Sometimes people receive bags of food from Red Deer Food Bank but need help in knowing how to cook the food. A recipe book would be helpful to these individuals. Volunteers are needed to compile recipes or donate completed recipe books. Recipes for vegetables and/or seasonal recipes (such as Christmas recipes) are most needed.

Portioning Items

The Red Deer Food Bank receives donations of bulk items such as pasta, coffee, and eggs. These items need to be divided up into portions so that they can be distributed to multiple recipients.

Cleaning

The Red Deer Food Bank needs help cleaning areas in their facility. This would be a regular on-going project.

Sorting Food

Mondays through Fridays, The Red Deer Food Bank needs help sorting donated food. This involves sorting dry goods, checking bread for dates, keeping the bakery stocked, and sorting and packaging produce.

"Art From The Street" Volunteer Coordinator

Potter's Hands Ministries is looking to begin a project called "Art From The Street." The goal is to facilitate a therapeutic outlet for street persons. For this, they need someone to coordinate the volunteers. The project would run 1 or 2 afternoons or evenings a week for 2-3 hours each.

"Art From The Street"

General Cleaning

On Saturdays, Katch 22 would love some help cleaning at their location. Tasks would include dusting and mopping.

Straightening Items on Display

This project involves straightening items on hangers and other items that are on display on shelves at Katch 22 on Saturdays.

Sorting

Katch 22 receives donations of household items to serve the homeless and needy of Red Deer. These donations need to be sorted and organized according to type and other factors. Katch 22 would like help sorting on Saturdays.

Internet Connection

If you are good with computers and managing networks, Katch 22 could use your help connecting a computer to the Internet. They already have one computer set up.

Electrical Wiring

Katch 22 needs some help wiring lights in their building. They would greatly appreciate any help you could provide!

Painting

Katch 22 is looking for volunteers to paint sections of the interior of the building. A possible idea is to create themes on the walls. This project would be carried out on a Saturday.

Office Volunteer

Habitat for Humanity is looking for additional help in the office. The time commitment is only 1 hour per week and involves photocopying, shredding paper, and answering phones. Anyone aged 12 and up may volunteer.

ReStore

ReStore is a store run by Habitat for Humanity which accepts donations of new and used renovating supplies and household appliances and sells them at discount prices. Revenue from ReStore sales is used to build homes for families in need. The ReStore is supported by volunteers assisting with various tasks such as customer service, stocking shelves, helping acquire stock, answering phones, loading and unloading the delivery truck, and testing home appliances. The ReStore operates Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Volunteers are asked to commit to a full day. Note: Age 16+ required; waiver required for individuals under age 18.

Lunches

The building crews at Habitat for Humanity get hungry after working so hard! Why don't you bless them with a homemade lunch? Make enough for a crew over 5 people, and bring to the building site. This is ideal for a family project or a group activity.

Crew Leader

Habitat for Humanity is currently working on building 2 duplexes to provide housing for 4 families. They are in need of crew leaders for this project. No experience is necessary as an orientation is available. The site hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 9:00am-5:00pm and work on these duplexes will continue until December 31. Note: Age 16+ required on building site; waiver required for individuals under age 18.

On-Site Safety Person

Habitat for Humanity is currently working on building 2 duplexes to provide housing for 4 families. They are in need of on-site safety individuals to commit to a 4 hour period. No experience is necessary. This person ensures that workers sign-in, arranges waivers and work practices, and makes coffee for the crew. The site hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 9:00am-5:00pm and work on these duplexes will continue until December 31. Note: Age 16+ required on building site; waiver required for individuals under age 18.

Christmas Baskets

Imagine being left out at Christmas time! In December, Central Alberta Women's Outreach puts together 70-100 baskets to provide to single women who live in poverty but do not fit other Christmas programs. They need help to collect items to put in the baskets. Normally they gather baskets, bows, hygiene items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, bubble bath, bath salts, a book or piece of jewelry, body spray, shampoo and conditioner, lotion, fingernail clippers, towel, facecloth, some candy, chocolate, coffee mug, comb, brush, or anything that you think would give a female a personal, emotional boost. A lot of these items are samples or clearance items. These items can be gathered between now and December.

Central Alberta Women's Outreach also needs volunteers early in December to arrange some of these items in a basket. As it gets closer to the end of November and beginning of December, they arrange a day to meet, socialize, and put the baskets together. At the end of the day, they marvel at all the beautiful baskets.

Clean Nursery School Room

On either October 10 or November 7 from 9:00am-12:00noon, come to Central Alberta Women's Outreach Society to clean up the Nursery School Room. All supplies is provided. Tasks include wiping walls, removing items from shelving, dusting, moving furniture, and vacuuming.

Clean Safe Visitation Room

On either October 10 or November 7 from 9:00am-12:00noon, come to Central Alberta Women's Outreach Society to clean up the Safe Visitation Room. All supplies is provided. Tasks include wiping walls, removing items from shelving, dusting, moving furniture, and vacuuming.

Clean Group Room

On either October 10 or November 7 from 9:00am-12:00noon, come to Central Alberta Women's Outreach Society to clean up the Group Room. All supplies is provided. Tasks include wiping walls, removing items from shelving, dusting, moving furniture, and vacuuming.

General Maintenance and Cleaning

Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter (CAWES) sometimes needs help with the little things around the shelter. Volunteers can help with duties such as disinfecting toys in Child Support, weeding in the garden, and changing light bulbs.

Client Room Makeovers

If you are creative with design, Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter (CAWES) could use you! Their client rooms are in desperate need of a makeover! They are looking for volunteers to design client rooms, paint, and accessorize them to create a calm, comfortable space for clients to rest and heal. CAWES will supply the paint, but it is up to the volunteer group to design the rest of the space.

Moving

Central Alberta Women's Emergency Shelter (CAWES) is looking for volunteers to assist clients in moving furniture and personal items into their new accomodations. Volunteers will need to provide the transportation (truck or van) and the muscle. Days and times are variable, depending on client and volunteer schedules.

Develop Agency Video

Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.) is looking for a technical person to convert a promotional video in VHS format into DVD format. There is also a possibility to create an updated video.

Cookbook

With so many different cultures represented in Central Alberta, there is a variety of cooking styles! Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.) is looking for a group to collect international recipes from those at C.A.R.E. and compile them for a possible fundraiser. This would make an excellent group activity for those who love to cook!

Women's "Learning Together"

Any women available on Wednesdays between 12:30pm and 3:30pm are encouraged to come to Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.)'s "Learning Together" program. Socialize with newcomers, and casually teach a craft or sewing project such as card making. Note: Criminal record check required.

Furniture Delivery

Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.) is looking for people to help move and deliver furniture to newcomers' new homes on a casual basis. Note: Criminal record check required.

Interpreter/Translator Bank

If you know a language other than English, Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.) could use you! Newcomers to the area who have limited abilities in English need casual help when going to appointments or interviews to ensure that miscommunication is limited. Any and all languages are needed. Note: Criminal record check required.

Volunteer Friends "Host" Program

Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.) is looking for individuals to befriend newcomers. Meet someone from another culture, spend 2-4 hours per week together, and introduce them to life in Central Alberta. This program is flexible and friendship-based. Note: Criminal record check required.

Network Server

A computer-savvy individual is needed by Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre to assess office needs for data backup and an office network, and to hook everything up in working order. This also involves fundraising for any required equipment.

Drivers

If you have a vehicle and are available on Wednesday afternoons between Sept 30 and Jan 27, consider driving clients to and from a parenting program at Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre. Female drivers are preferred, and car seat hookups are required. Client confidentiality is a must. Note: Criminal record check required; other details will be discussed in an interview.

Finish Basement Bathroom

2-3 people with plumbing and handyman skills are needed at Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre for 1-2 weekends. To finish the basement bathroom, tile or lino flooring needs to be installed, as well as fixtures and accessories.

"Adopt a Counselling Room"

If you have a creative and artistic eye, Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre needs you! Get a group of 3-4 people together and develop a vision to furnish and decorate a counselling room, fundraise for the cost, and make the room beautiful, peaceful, and inviting!

Fall Yard and Agency Cleanup

Central Alberta Pregnancy Care Centre needs help cleaning up outside the agency building. Spend an evening or a few hours on the weekend washing windows and walls, dusting, raking leaves, and cleaning eaves troughs. This would be a great activity for a group of 8-15 people to spend some time serving outdoors!

Teaching Classes

If you have experience in bookkeeping, budgeting, job searching, resume building, interviewing, or computers, why not share your skills with newcomers? By offering your knowledge, you will help others to become more employable and successful in the job market. Classes are held at Central Alberta Immigrant Women's Association. Note: Criminal record check required.

Special Events

Central Alberta Immigrant Women's Association is looking for help during its fundraising events throughout the year. You can assist on an occasional basis at events such as BBQs, where you could cook or serve food, and educational events raising awareness on the issue of discrimination.

Translating for Family Violence Program

If you are proficient in a langage other than English, or if you know someone who is, why not come along and help newcomers? The family violence program at Central Alberta Immigrant Women's Association is available to all, but some newcomers have difficulty understanding English. Your translation will bless them greatly. Central Alberta AIDS Network Society is looking for participants for its fundraising events throughout the year. Consider attending and offering your skills. These would be fun projects for groups!

Special Events

Central Alberta AIDS Network Society holds special events throughout the year, such as World AIDS Day, to raise awareness. They need help planning and organizing these events, as well as technical and other forms of support during the events.

"A Gathering Place" Support Centre Volunteer

A Gathering Place is a peer support centre for people with mental illness. Come to share a skill or craft, help with toonie lunches, lead a walking club, or just socialize and play cards! This project is for the Canadian Mental Health Association.

"Bargain Treasures" Store Volunteer

Bargain Treasures is a second-hand store operated by volunteers. It is a fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association and also provides an opportunity for persons with disabilities to learn new skills and contribute to the community. You can volunteer once per week or once per month in the general operations of the store.

Fundraising Committee Members

Are you creative and love planning events? The Canadian Mental Health Association is looking for Fundraising Committee members who can generate ideas for events, carry out planning and organizing, and participate in the events.

Board Members

The Canadian Mental Health Association is looking for individuals to serve as Board Members for their agency.

Repairs or Sewing

Are you handy at fixing things? Bibles for Missions could use your help repairing donated items such as electronics or motors or sewing other items to make them ready to be sold. These tasks can be done at home.

Special Projects

If you have some time to spare on an occassional basis, consider assisting Bibles for Missions with special projects. Examples of projects are seasonal changes of merchandise, and packing boxes of clothes to be sent with overseas mission trips.

Cashiers

Do you love serving others in a customer service environment? Bibles for Missions is looking for individuals to volunteer as cashiers on a casual basis, either part time or full time.

Special Roles in Store

If you enjoy crafts, sewing, or organizing, Bibles for Missions has some fun projects for you! They are looking for individuals who can put together craft bags and grab bags and also to remodel dolls so they can be sold. There are also bolts of fabric to be measured and readied for sales. Window displays also need to be organized and designed each season.

Bibles for Missions is looking for individuals to become involved in leadership by joining thier policy-only management style Board.

General Store Volunteer

There are many hard-working, long-term volunteers at Bibles for Missions who are in need of relief. Consider stepping in where they leave off, performing general duties around the store and helping out where needed.

Warehouse Donation

If you are a business owner or someone with additional property in the downtown area, consider donating a warehouse building to Bibles for Missions. They are overflowing with donations are their current location and, as a result, are unable to accept any more large furniture pieces. This second building would be a wonderful blessing, not only to Bibles for Missions, but also for those they impact.

Carpentry

If you love working and building with wood, try your hand at minor carpentry projects at Berachah Place. They are in need of items such as shelving units and closet systems.

Socialize with Homeless Community

Come and befriend homeless individuals in the community in a casual, non-threatening environment. This opportunity is one day per week at Berachah Place.

Painting

The Berachah Place building is in need of new paint on the exterior walls. This would be a great group project!

Flooring Renovations

If you are enjoy working with flooring, consider becoming involved in this renovation project. Old carpet needs to be teared out and new flooring installed. New ideas for flooring materials are welcome. This project is for Berachah Place.

Fundraising

Berachah Place is looking for a team of volunteers to assist in fundraising events. This would involve helping to create new fundraising ideas and participate in events such as car washes, BBQs, and art auctions.

Victim Services - Red Deer Rural RCMP Mission

To lessen the immediate impact of a crime on a Victim, to help Victims cope with the effects of a crime, to focus on the prevention of further victimizati on and provide encouragement to the Victim, to help to increase the “availability time” of members and be of service to investigators, to actively participate in the preventative crime deterrents with potential Victims, to promote positive liaison between Members, Court systems and the Victim, and to provide on going public awareness.

Victim Services - Red Deer City RCMP Mission

To provide all victims with support, information and referrals in an effort to lessen the immediate impact of crime or trauma upon the victim, help the victim cope with the effects of crime or trauma, provide encouragement and empowerment to the victim throughout their dealings with the Criminal Justice System, and help prevent further victimization.

The Lending Cupboard Mission

The Lending Cupboard is a Private Charity, operated by Staff and Volunteers, to provide the people of Red Deer and Central Alberta with New or Used Medical Equipment for as long as they need it, at no cost and with no qualifying.

Shining Mountains Living Community Society Mission

Service provision that allows the marginalized and underserved populati on the opportunity to have equal access to services and resources that are appropriate socially, spiritually and culturally and that promotes quality of life in a respectful manner, through harm reduction practices and programming to reduce the risk of infection of HIV/AIDS and/or HCV infection in these populations.

Central Alberta Refugee Effort (C.A.R.E.) Mission

To support the efforts of immigrants and refugees to overcome barriers and participate fully in Canadian life as valued members of the Central Alberta community by providing coordinated services and encouraging a welcome environment.

Harm Reduction Kits

The Central Alberta AIDS Network Society is in need of a group of people willing to spend some time assembing different packages together to give to those individuals on the street that are in need. The kits are "Safer Sex Kit", "Needle Bag Kit" and "Safe Inhalation Bag".

Board Member

The Central Alberta AIDS Network Society is in need of 3-4 new Board Members, willing to meet once a month as part of a policy governance board.

Katch 22 Mission

We serve many of the homeless, young and old, with the necessities to move forward in their lives. We assist by connecting to community resources and helping the families establish independence.

Mentoring One on One

If you love to cook, clean and are great with budgeting, try your hand at mentoring an individual that is need of some basic household life skills. This mentoring project is for the Central Alberta Housing Society. Note: Criminal record check required.
